My name is Cyndy Yu-Robinson and I am your State Director for AAU Karate North Carolina State and District. AAU GROWING THE INDIVIDUAL
ATHLETES: The AAU Karate national program recognizes the life-long benefits of karate including physical fitness, mental focus, goal-setting, resilience, friendship and fellowship, leadership and sportsmanship. AAU Karate has the largest and best developmental program for new karate competitors and an elite program for seasoned athletes that includes national and international competition. Athletes compete in against others of the same age (6, 7, 8 years old etc., 18-34 years, 35 years and over), same sex, and same experience (Beginner (0-1 year of training)t, Novice (1-2 years), Intermediate (2-4 years) and Advanced (4+ years of training).
COACHES PROGRAM: AAU coaches play an important role in competitive karate, including knowledge of the competition rules, providing support during an athlete’s competitive performances (next to the tatami/ringside), and organizing athletes, teams, and families for competitions and trainings. Eligibility: (1) Technical Coach a black belt who is 16 years or older. (2) Administrative Coach anyone who knows the AAU Karate rules (underblack belt, junior, or parent)
OFFICIALS: Instructors and advanced athletes (competing or retired) make excellent officials. Triangle’s Best Karate is home to the head of the AAU Referees Council, Stephen Robinson. Training, evaluation, and ranking for officials are available at the regional and national levels by contacting Sensei Robinson.
