“How did the tournament go?”
How did the Tournament go? It’s a common question after a competition, and the answer depends on your role and perspective.
Overheard after the AAU Karate Region 3 SuperRegional championship:
Young Athlete: “I finally beat him, I am so happy with my medal because I figured out how to beat my rival!”
Seasoned Athlete: “Really good. I scored with a front kick, reverse punch, and hook kick. Definitely going to keep training those for Nationals!”
Coach: “I had two athletes up at the same time, the parents were a great help. I’m happy when the kids listen and improve.”
Medic: “I calmed a few crying kids, gave out bandaids and applied ice packs, but there were no concusisons or broken bones. Now THAT is a good day.”
Official: “I love refereeing, I get to see these athletes do their best.”
Another official: “Good sportsmanship and teamwork. I saw kids high-fiving each other and parents pitching in everywhere.”
Tournament host: “Phenomineal athletes, rings ran continuously all day, no protests!”
